Believe in your ability to succeed or instead you believe that life events are largely out of your control ?
Think carefully about your answer , because it could affect your risk of mortality.
People who feel secure , able to control and which they believe they can achieve the goals despite the difficulties are more likely to live longer and healthier lives , according to a new study from Brandeis University and the University of Rochester. The study was published online in the journal Health Psychology .
Previous studies have shown that people with a high school diploma or less education tend to die younger than those with a bachelor's degree or a master's degree . But it is not the only variable to affect longevity.
In this study , people with greater perceived control in their lives have had a mortality rate three times lower than those with a lower sense of control , and this is true even if people are to have more control with less education .
" A high sense of control trumps everything , even on the differences educational / training , when we talk about mortality ," says Lachman . " A person with less education , but a high sense of control is virtually indistinguishable from a person with higher education ."
"There are methods and strategies to improve their sense of control " says Lachman "It 's important study , not only to improve the quality of their lives, but also to reduce the risk of mortality "
